Executive Development Program – Craig Wilson

The World Bank Institute will launch a new Executive Development Program, “Inclusive and Sustainable Business: Creating Markets with the Poor,” to be held in Washington on June 9-13, 2008 and continuing on-line from June 16-30, 2008. FDC’s Executive Director, Craig Wilson, will act as an on-line resource person in the second week of the program. A copy of the agenda is available here. FDC Singapore

FDC’s Chairman, Mr Bob Lyon, has approved the establishment of FDC’s first overseas office. FDC Singapore will commence operations on 30 July 2008. The BWTP Secretariat will be co-located with the FDC Singapore office. FDC’s Mr Jamie Bedson has been appointed as FDC’s Asia Regional Representative and will be based in Singapore and head up FDC Singapore.

Queen Birthday Honours List

FDC was pleased to learn in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List that our recently retired Governor, The Hon Prof Peter Baume AC, received an Order of Australia, Companion (AC) in the General Division. FDC congratulates Peter on this most deserved honour.

FDC Awarded Grant from Western Union Foundation for Pacific Initiative

FDC has been awarded a grant from the Western Union Foundation to undertake an initiative in the Pacific entitled: “Development and Dissemination of Financial Literacy Materials Targeted at Poor Remittance-Receiving Households in the Pacific Islands (including Fiji islands, Timor-Leste, Samoa and Tonga)”. Further details about the initiative will be available in the coming months.

Financing Village-Level Energy for Development in the Asia-Pacific Workshop

The Foundation for Development Cooperation (FDC) hosted a small, high-level workshop in Manila on 10 and 11 April 2008 entitled “Financing Village-Level Energy for Development in the Asia-Pacific”. The agenda focused on the methodologies and options available for financing sustainable energy supply initiatives linked with microfinance and/or SME finance in the Asia-Pacific region.
